Our Purpose


The Uley Society promotes and coordinates activities for the maintenance and enrichment of life in our wonderful village of Uley & Owlpen situated in the Ewelme Valley near Dursley, Gloucestershire.

Our Objectives


The Society is established to benefit the public for the following purposes in Uley and Owlpen, Gloucestershire:

  1. To promote high standards in planning and architecture in or affecting Uley & Owlpen.
  2. To educate the public in geography, history, natural history and architecture of the area.
  3. To secure the preservation protection development and improvement of features of historic or public interest in the area.

Our Activities


The volunteer committee coordinate the following activities each year:
  1. Monthly talks and lectures of local and historical interest from September to March.
  2. An annual members visit to and walk at a local architectural or historical place of interest.
  3. Sponsoring the Uley Annual Show organised by a sub-committee of the Uley Society.
  4. Collection and maintenance of a historical archive of local interest.
  5. Hosting visits by other local historical groups.
  6. Donations to community projects in and around Uley.
  7. Publishing books and documents of local and historical interest.

Governance


The Executive Committee is responsible for the management and administration of the Society. Officers and the other Committee member are elected annually by Society members at the Annual General Meeting “AGM”.
