Mothers' Union

This is a copy photograph of the Uley Mothers' Union Outing in the early 1900s. They are all set for a day at Cheddar! What a wonderful display of hats.

The vehicle is a Charabanc which is a type of horse drawn vehicle, or in this case an early motor coach, usually open-topped. It has bench seats arranged in rows.  The name derives from the French char a bancs, the vehicle having originated in France in the early 19th century.
